An Local Productive System (S.P.L.) is a network of companies grouped within a given territory (or a specific employment zone), which possess complementary know-how centered on a productive specialty. The SPL generates wealth by creating jobs in its productive specificity and connected domains, such as training. 

As a factor for sustainable territorial development, SPLs make it possible to anchor a historic operation, or a new one in an employment zone. These structures are usually located in small or medium sized towns, and tend to counter-balance the attraction of the large regional metropolises. They are the expression of a given territory’s challenge to an economic approach on the national and/or international scale.
